Katie, Nate, and their wedding day will forever hold a very special place in my heart – they were the very first Amavi couple!
I absolutely loved everything about their vision: crisp and clean, fresh but with a touch of an edge. The couple absolutely loves their city, so we started by brainstorming the most unique #HamOnt locations to host their ceremony and reception. With Nate being a freemason, The Scottish Rite’s incredible bright red cathedral was an obvious choice for their ceremony – but we wanted something a little more off the beaten path for their reception, that would allow us the freedom to design the space exactly as the couple wanted.
Enter, Steam Museum! I stumbled across their oh-so-cool space by chance – The Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology had never hosted a wedding prior to Katie and Nate’s, but was no stranger to hosting craft shows and film shoots, so they were very open to our ideas and allowed us so much flexibility to create an incredible atmosphere within their two* buildings.
We used a variety of textiles – velvet furniture, vintage rugs, hammered flatware, and a pop of rose gold sequin to bring Katie and Nate’s fresh yet edgy aesthetic together. These eclectic touches over a clean base of crisp linens and clean florals in classic whites and greenery kept the look balanced and didn’t allow things to lean too edgy or too classic. Everything was just right.
The perfect final touch to the day was the favours Katie and Nate chose for their guests – Smile Cookies from Tim Hortons!

*The City of Hamilton no longer allows events to take place within the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology’s 1913 Electric Pumphouse. It is such a shame, but I am honoured to have had the opportunity to plan not one but two weddings within that space!
